The Spaniards first arrived on the island of Cuba in 1957. The island was not very interested in the early stages of the island because it had no natural resources and there were few Indians. Until the Haiti revolution in 1790, Cuba became the source of the Spanish sugar industry instead of Haiti. Cuba was the last land on the Spanish colonial American continent. José Marti established the Cuban Revolutionary Party in 1892 to claim independence until it was killed in 1871. In 1895, Cuba's call for independence was supported by the United States. Until a naval warship exploded in Havana's bay on February 15, 1897, that sparked the Spanish-American War. As a result of the war, Cuba gained independence and other Spanish colonies belonged to the United States.

After independence Cuba is heavily influenced by the United States. At certain times, such as 1917-1923, Cuba was occupied by the United States and took over direct administration. This is because the US has interests in the Cuban sugar industry. US influence came to an end when Fidel Castro took power from President Fulkenzio Batista and governed the country in a socialist regime in 1959 when the US was cut off and blocked on trade. And encouraged overseas Cubans to rebellion against the government of Castro until the Bay of Fights crisis on April 15, 1971, but failed. Castro's government turned to build relations with the Soviet Union and China instead Cuba is currently one of the top five communist countries in the world (the other four are China, Vietnam, Laos and North Korea) and is the only country in the Americas to be ruled by a communist regime.
